The Diary of a Guardian Angel

Looking out for those who will learn to know better…

Changing my Name

I’ve decided to change my name, well, the name I’m using in this Diary anyway. When I originally chose Serge, I thought it sounded mysterious and evocative of exotic travel. Now I realise it makes me sound like a moody French exchange student who despises all your cooking and is bored by all the activities you’ve planned.

I hope that it’s clear that Serge is a pseudonym, my real name takes quite a long time to say, and is difficult to write in English. The angel language is like singing, and the names are especially melodic. If you think this sounds beautiful and romantic then you’ve clearly not realised that a language that makes a simple request sound like an aria can make a meeting an excruciating and embarrassing affair. As such, it should be clear that I don’t go to work with Larry, Bob and Phil. Actually I do go to work with Larry, but his parents were tone deaf, and thought it sounded exotic. There’s also Cliff the security guard, who was a man who liked a quiet life. You don’t get a life much quieter than security guard around here.

A name is supposed to tell the tale of your future life, and it’s quite a big deal naming an Angel. Which isn’t surprising as we are particularly long lived, and don’t have children often. There’s no deed poll up here, and if you don’t give your child a good name, they’re stuck with it for a serious length of time.

Anyway, I’m changing my name, I haven’t decided to what just yet, but I’ll think of something. It’s not as I’m short of examples around here.
